To our community, supporters, members, and everyone who made an impact on us,
It is with a heavy heart that this letter is written. A lot of thought and many options were explored before this inevitable end. However, after two wonderful years the Downtown Shelby Days will not be able to operate for a third and will be dissolving operations.
The spirit and will power were there! We all desired the same outcome to make a wonderful weekend festival full of music, food, and the entertainment we all remember from our youth; A place where families, and friends, could come and enjoy the circle as an outing and as an experience again. The freedom to enjoy the local shops and take in artisans and enjoy time together as a community was not only an option, it was encouraged. However, we found ourselves lacking not in spirit but in manpower and in the overall assistance from those around us.
The backing needed to put on a festival comes from all sides. It takes more than just a desire to run a successful venture. We would have rather run a successful venture than a mediocre attempt. That is why we are making this choice. We do appreciate the backing from the supporters we had and we know we could not have put together any type of venture without and we will be forever grateful to them. These business and persons are the true meaning of small town and the hospitality spirit. They wanted greater and more for us and we appreciate them with all our heart.
To those individuals who have already signed on board for the 2017 year. You will be receiving any deposits refunded soon. We also want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You are the heartbeat of a great festival and made us a success.
The members of our board who have stuck by in past and present through the ups downs and the trials; who have put personal time and personal funds into making this a success. You are truly thanked. You did all of this with little thanks, little time, all volunteer. So many were quick to shove us off and yet we marched on. There was no rain on our parade! Well a little.
We thank every one of the thousands of visitors who came out, from the bands, to the vendors, artisans, and each person who said hello or gave a smile. We did all of this for that moment in time for that smile on all of your faces. We hope that someday someone will bring back that small town Shelbyville feel again. Until then we hope we left you with a good memory and we look forward to seeing what Shelbyville has in stored for its future.
With Love, Respect, and Memories,
